CAMPING & Activities

June gettysburg hike

6/21/2024

Our camping trip in June is a historic hike through Gettysburg. This year, we travelled on the four mile “Johnny Reb” trail, which follows the perspective of confederate soldiers on the battlefield during the Civil War. While the weather was hot, the scouts had a very fun time learning about our country’s history. After the hike, scouts had time to have fun with their friends around the campground and in the pool. Many of the scouts also chose to play basketball in the pool, or GaGa ball, a favorite activity of the troop. The campground also held a candy bingo with multiple of our scouts participated in!

First aid rally

5/17/2024

Our May trip was a district wide event hosted at the Baltimore County Game & Fish where each patrol competed against each other to demonstrate their first aid skills in stations. The winner of this event was a patrol from our troop 247!

April first year camp

4/19/2024

This weekend all of our new first years went through stations run by the patrols about important scout skills such as fire building, first aid, axe yard, tent building, and knot tying. They had so much fun going to each alien themed station, a theme chosen by the first years themselves. The skits at Saturday night’s campfire ceremony were some original and new ones made up by the patrols.

March shooting trip

3/22/2024

This week was our annual rifle and shotgun shooting trip where the scouts shot at paper targets and clay pigeons down a range. Although it rained on Saturday, the scouts still found a way to make the best of it by playing games and hanging out with friends in their adirondacks. The rain cleared up at the end of the day and we had a fun campfire with plenty of skits and games.

February klondike trip

2/23/2024

This weekend we went on our annual Klondike trip where the patrols built sleds and worked together to get points on stations about scout skills such as fire building, orienteering, and knot tying. This year, our troop ran the slalom and semaphore stations. After a full day of fun stations with the patrols making lunch in the middle, the day ended with a delicious dinner followed by an egg drop contest and the announcement of the winning patrol. This year our Lumberjacks patrol got the record time for the two man saw station, and our very own Penguins patrol were the winners of the entire competition in addition to winning multiple of the individual stations. This was an amazing and fun packed trip and we look forward to it again next year.

January - wilderness survival

1/26/2024

This weekend we had an amazing time at camp Rodney learning how to live in a plane crash survival situation! The patrols worked together and built their own shelters, camp gadgets, and an SOS sign so we can be rescued with some fun games worked in to the program. We also had three first year scouts earn their totin’ chips in the axeyard and learn new camping skills.
